Vintage Art Deco Platinum Sapphire and Old Cut Diamond Stone Ring
A deep blue natural sapphire sits at the centre of this three stone ring, held in a delicate coronet setting. On either side, two old cut diamonds glow with the soft, chunky sparkle you only find in hand-cut stones from the early 1900s, a warmer, more romantic fire than any modern diamond.
The stones are set in platinum, stamped “PLAT”, and sit on a slim, elegant shank that tapers gently towards the shoulders. Each stone is lifted high in its own coronet of claws, letting the light pour in from every angle. Rings like this were made to be passed down, and this one is ready for its next chapter. A perfect vintage engagement ring, or a stunning anniversary gift. Size L½.
What is an old cut diamond?
Old European and old mine cut diamonds were cut by hand before modern machinery. They have larger facets, a higher crown and an open culet, giving a softer, warmer sparkle that’s often compared to candlelight.
Why is it stamped “PLAT” and not hallmarked?
Platinum wasn’t hallmarked in the UK until 1975. Rings made before then were usually stamped “PLAT” by the maker, which is typical of the Art Deco period.
Is it suitable as an engagement ring?
Absolutely. Sapphire and diamond are both very hard-wearing, and a vintage three stone ring is one of the most romantic engagement ring choices.
Can the ring be resized?
Yes, our workshop can resize it carefully, keeping its vintage character. Book an appointment and we’ll advise.
What does a three stone ring mean?
It’s often said to represent past, present and future, which makes it especially meaningful for an engagement or anniversary.
