Pre-loved 9K Yellow gold Edwardian Suffragette Pendant, Peridot; Amethyst & Seed Pearls (circa 1905 to 1913)
Every now and then a piece comes in with a proper story behind it, and this is one of them.
A genuine Edwardian pendant from somewhere around 1905 to 1913, in warm 9ct yellow gold. The whole frame is delicate open scrollwork, all fine little curls and loops, the kind of detail you simply do not get in modern jewellery. At the centre sits a soft green peridot in a step cut, with a round amethyst swinging beneath it on an articulated drop, and tiny seed pearls set in leaf and flower clusters across the top.
Now here is the lovely bit. Green, white and violet. Put those three colours together and you have the colours of the suffragette movement, the women campaigning for the vote in exactly these years. Green, White, Violet for Give Women the Vote. Whether the lady who first wore it chose it as a quiet little statement or simply because it is beautiful, we will never know. Either way it carries a bit of history with it, and we rather love that.
It is light and easy on at just over 3 grams, the sort of pendant that looks just as good with a jumper as it does dressed up. A genuine one of a kind antique, so once it has gone, it has gone. This is real, solid 9ct gold with a genuine peridot, amethyst and natural seed pearls.
