Antique Edwardian 18ct Gold Sapphire and Old Cut Diamond Five Stone Ring
Three deep blue sapphires alternate with two old cut diamonds across the top of this boat-shaped 18ct yellow gold ring. The larger centre sapphire is flanked by the diamonds, with a smaller sapphire at each end, so the stones graduate gently towards the middle for a beautifully balanced look.
The old cut diamonds have the chunky, hand-cut facets and warm, candlelit sparkle that modern diamonds simply can’t copy. Each stone is claw set within a smooth marquise-shaped frame, and the carved half-hoop gallery underneath is pierced with a row of round windows, a signature detail of the Edwardian era.
Over a century old and still ready for everyday wear, it’s a perfect alternative engagement ring, an eternity ring or a September birthstone gift. Size O.

FAQ
How old is the ring?
It dates from the Edwardian era, around 1900 to 1915, so it’s over 100 years old.
What is an old cut diamond?
Old cut diamonds were cut by hand before modern machinery. They have larger facets and a softer, warmer sparkle, often compared to candlelight.
What is a five stone ring?
A ring set with a row of five stones across the top, a classic British design that has been popular for engagement and eternity rings for over a century.
Is it suitable as an engagement ring?
Yes. Sapphire and diamond are both very hard-wearing, and an antique five stone ring is a romantic alternative to a solitaire.
Can the ring be resized?
Yes, our workshop can resize it carefully through the plain part of the shank, keeping its antique character. Book an appointment and we’ll advise.
