How Much Does a Bespoke Engagement Ring Cost in Harrogate?
It's the question I get asked more than any other, usually hovering somewhere just after "can you actually make something bespoke" and just before someone tells me their budget in a whisper, like it's a confession. So let's talk about it properly, with real numbers, not vague suggestions.
Bespoke Means Bespoke
I want to clear something up first, because it matters. A lot of places will call a ring "bespoke" when really you're picking from a catalogue of settings and swapping the stone. That's customisation, not bespoke. When someone commissions a truly bespoke engagement ring in Harrogate with us, we're starting with a blank page - your story, your references, your ideas - and building a piece that has never existed before and never will again.
That distinction is also one of the biggest factors in cost, because a genuinely original design takes far more time at the design and hand-finishing stage than adapting something off the shelf.

What It Actually Costs
Let's start with the gold: 18ct gold is our standard for a piece meant to be worn every day for decades, though 9ct is a sound option if budget is the priority. Bespoke rings in 18ct gold start at £1,500 and go up from there depending on design and stone. Choosing 9ct gold instead brings the starting point down to around £950, which can be a sensible way to reduce cost without giving up on a fully bespoke design.
To give you a real example rather than a vague range: an 18k gold ring with a 2ct lab-grown diamond in a standard setting comes in at around £1,899. If you're after something really personalised or intricate - the kind of hand-carved, story-driven design we specialise in, and expect that figure to rise with the complexity of the work involved. Natural diamonds push the price up further (especially for larger stones), as do certain coloured gemstones, depending on rarity and carat.

Bespoke means exactly what you want, made just for you!
A Recent Commission: 5-Carat Lab-Grown, Celtic and Polynesian Inspired
Just the other day I finished a piece that sums up what bespoke really means to me. Our client came in wanting something big - a 5-carat centre stone - but with a design that told a very personal story, weaving together Celtic and Polynesian design influences into one ring. That's not something you find sat in a display cabinet anywhere. We sketched, refined, and hand-finished a setting that honoured both traditions without either one overpowering the other.
The stone itself was lab-grown, which was exactly what made a 5-carat centre stone achievable within this client's budget.

Whimsical and Window-Worthy: A Marquise Centre Design
The second piece I want to mention is one you may well have seen if you follow our social media; a whimsical, storybook-inspired design built around a marquise cut centre stone. Marquise stones have a wonderful elongated shape that makes them look larger than their actual carat weight, and this particular design leaned into that with soft, flowing details around the setting. It's a lovely example of how bespoke doesn't always mean specific details or engraving, it can mean a feeling - whimsy, playfulness, and romance.
Choosing Your Stones
Beyond the headline numbers, the finer details of stone choice: carat, cut, clarity, and colour, all shift the price meaningfully. This is where I personally get involved, sitting down with clients to talk through what actually matters to them: is it size, sparkle, or a particular coloured gemstone with personal meaning? I hand-select every stone that goes into a Fogal & Barnes commission, so this conversation always happens face to face, not over a spec sheet.
Bespoke isn't a price tag, it's a process, and an honest conversation about budget is where every good design actually starts.
